asparagus explained!!
Jac, i thought i would explain here rather than in your comment box (may be a bit long)
When i ordered my asparagus from the website (who shall be nameless) said delivery would be between February/ may… I placed my order thinking i have time to prepare a bed .. I have ordered things in the past ( potatoes, fruit bushes) in advance with no problems. Yes..These have arrived four months early and they are not as described on the website as crowns. These are what i was expecting but what arrived a week after my order were the plants (in pots) as in the picture, so, now I’m faced with the dilemma of where to keep them until i can plant them. I don’t want to risk leaving them in pots at my lottie in winter as there are fewer people around, so may disappear. I do have a garden as such, its a shared garden, i live in a house that’s converted into flats but with the neighboring kids playing down there they could get damaged, so that’s a no. I think my daughter may have to baby (plant) sit..
I don’t really know much about asparagus, only what i have read on how to prepare a bed and plant them. “I was planning to learn as i go along” Most are sold as 2 year crowns and then left for a year after planting before cutting any spears, these look well established, so i may get a crop in the first year of planting( that’s a bonus) not having to wait..
It was just a shock receiving these so soon after ordering them”what the hell do i do now” (so much for forward planning) and a bigger shock when i opened the boxes and saw they were plants not crowns.. it completely threw me… I don’t like it when somebody moves the goal post and i have to change my plans…Ar**ols… and im not even sure if they will survive being transplanted from pots…
I’m still debating whether to send them a stern email…

A dilemma indeed. I shall go ask on my allotment forum, see what these guys suggest and I’ll get back to you. Will do it tonight. Hope they’ll be okay (the plants) though, fingers crossed!

BTW, I wanted to also comment - I like the makeover! For a moment yesterday I thought I’d found me another great new blog, but it was all to familiar, then I realised it was yours!
Have a lovely weekend.
