their back

August 23rd, 2008

The Folks who host my site, restored my posts from two days ago. Thank you for your comments on my previous post, which iv now lost because you didn’t write them two days ago - ha

When my site went belly up i seriously thought this is no problem, ill just go to my c-panel and do a restore with my back up.  I tried three different ones and the posts were not there. Then i stupidly deleted the back up files. It got to the stage were i almost wiped the database clean out of frustration, but then thought the better of it and asked them for help.

Took them a while though, i got an email saying that they thought it was wp and i should go to them for help, well i wasn’t having that - there was nothing wrong with the wp files as i did another upgrade and it was fine, just my posts were not on the database..

By this time i had resigned myself to the fact that they were lost and i would have to start from scratch. Now all i have to do is sort out my template as its reverted back to the default one. So, i have some template tweaking to do over the next few days to get it back to how i like it..

where do i begin

August 14th, 2008

Haven’t felt like blogging lately, not really knowing what to write - bloggers block i suppose. Anyway, things down at the plot are in pretty good shape; I have dug up my potatoes.

The Maris peer were crap, ill not bother growing these again as they were full of holes with bugs living in them-not sure what they were, looked like woodlice. My Desiree were superb and are now stored away..

The Autumn king carrots i sowed a couple of weeks back have still not shown; i need to check the date i sowed them before i give up completely on them. The beetroot sown at the same time has shown itself and i need to thin those out.

Peppers are a bit of a laughing point. The plants are not big anyway and the fruits are tiny, no, their minuscule; I have micro peppers..

The sweet corn has now got cobs, not sure how to tell when they are ready for picking though ? and my runner beans i put in late have now reached the top of the wigwam; I had my doubts about those.  Courgettes! well, ill not mention those apart from iv been making vats loads of soup.

Last week we had an open day at the lottie. I arrived to find one of my courgettes that had morphed into a marrow on the ground. [i cant keep up with them]

We had a competition for the heaviest vegetable [courgette onion whatever] so someone obviously picked mine to enter then decided it didn’t stand a chance - bloody cheek. I took my whopper home a few days earlier - didn’t win though. Its now soup..

Toms are doing well, i picked “ate” three on Sunday. My squash and pumpkins seem ok, is it me or are they slower this year. Pumpkins have tiny fruits on them but my butternut hasn’t even flowered yet.

July on the Allotment

Where has the time gone ?

Just a quick update of progress at the lottie…

My Peas have finished now and sitting in their place are some Lettuce lollo, Radish and Spring onions. I have pulled up my 0nions and Shallots [a little early and some are a tad small but that's ok] needed space for 3 rows of Autumn king carrots.

Courgettes are going crazy - the first 2 fruits were stolen, bar&^*^%$. The whopper in the photo will feed us for a week - Ha

Dug up a row of my Maris peer potatoes, 4 more to go..

I’m trying some florence fennel this year too - The packet suggest to sow now [end of Jul/Aug] to avoid bolting, so, fingers crossed they will make it..

Toms are getting big and look healthy now the sun has made an appearance.

Peppers are starting to fruit, they are earlier this year, no show with the aubergines yet. Almost forgot,  sown some boltardy beetroot..

Brassicas are getting big  - need to do a photo update on those … Phew, she takes deep breath..

Have a good weekend
